18. How would your voice effect the ethnic backgroud you are in?
My ethnic background many people use their hands as communicating with other individuals. My voice does not effect my ethnic background in a bad way, it helps me communicate well with family and friends and it helps me see that people from the same background as me communicate in similar ways. My background is based on a lot of verbal communication which is important.

By observing what my interviewee thought about this questions, she believes that ethnic background does not have anything to do with voice. It helps her communicate because the background that she comes from there are alot hand moments and gestures. Voice helps her communicate with her family and friends more easily and this is important to her. When i wrote this question I was thinking about a whole different aspect of this question. Yes, voice has to do with your spoken voice which includes speech but your writing voice can be effected as well. How can your writing voice be effected? It can be effected because depending on your background you can strongly feel about a topic and potray that in your writing. For example African Americans went thru slavery so depending on how you feel about this topic can determine how much a person can write on this topic and how they potray their voice in a strong manner. Like different backgrounds can be influenced, different experiences can play a role also.

Post the list you worked on at the end of class (what you need to do for your project) with any additions you thought of

What I have worked on in class is my interview questions. Also i worked with my partner about what my focus will be which is how voice influences others. Depending on a person's experience can effect their voice. Meaning I can read something and feel negative about it or maybe feel sad, or happy. People have different perspections of voice because of their backgrouds or where they come from or where they live. People can not only have tones in their voice when they speak but they can set a tone when writing. What I need to do for my project is to incorporate more research in my final draft. I need to relate how my ideas of voice and my researchers ideas of voice tie in with each other. The person  I interviewed believes that she has a voice, but i believe somewhat in the middle

Develop some writing for your project. Post the references you will use for your research project as you will list them in the works cited list, and write what you will say about them in your literature review. If you don't have a the right reference yet - write an introduction that sets up your research question.

I need a reminder to which article you  suggested me to use. I will be talking about how voice is socially constructed that what peter elbow believes.

My introduction to my research question is that is voice original. So what does voice mean in literacy terms. Voice is not only your spoken voice. It can be heard thru your writing. Peter elbow believes that voice is socially constructed meaning that voice is not original. We are socially constructed by our society. We do what we are told by society meaning that we mimick each other actions, behaviors, or ideas. Technically voice is a perspection and everyone have their different meaning of how voice is interpeted.

In light of todays discussion, what are the strengths of your research project (do you have a strong research problem/question? the right research essay(s)? a solid plan for collecting data? will you have enough data? are you working with the right participants) Identify any place where you need to "catch up".

The strength of this research is that it can go both ways. There is not a right or wrong answer when it pertains to voice. It would just be who has the stronger arguement. My research question is whether or not voice is original. I passionately have a strong arguement on this topic because of my evidence that support it. In the end it doesnt really matter how a person feels about voice because it is their own personal perception and opinion. My solid plan is to see what my interview believes about voice and also put my opinion about voice. Without the prior  knowledge that  I had on voice when I took a course before this class probably would have made me have a different aspect on voice. You dont really think deep about a something until you are asked too.Yes I believe I will have enough data. Yes I believe i am working with the right participant. I had a little trouble finding someone to interview but I have found someone. I need to catch up on my literature review analysis.

1. Look for 3 sections/stories within your data that seem important to your focus.
1. The first main focus that seem to be important is that I believe that voice is a mixture of both being socially constructed and a person having their own voice. The person i interviewed believes that voice is not socially constructed and you have your own voice.
2. Because people experience different things in life may vary on their impact on voice. I believe that because you are a certain background, you may have a stronger voice about something more than the other. The person i interviewed believes that being the fact that she comes from a different background doesnt effect her voice but it helps her communicate easier.
3. Depending on a person's mood or how they feel about the topic can effect how they interpet voice.

2. Cut and paste them into a document and analyze them in some detial: ask what this section/story shows with respect to your focus? Look at:

17. What type of tone do you use in your writing voice and spoken voice?
My tone is average I speak to people In an orderly way and my voice is never low unless people are studying around me and I am with a friend my pitch would be low. My writing voice is low also because when I write I do like to talk to myself, for instance I like to read what I write out loud because I feel like that helps me more than reading it low to myself. This is why I like doing papers at home because I get to speak to myself when I am writing which helps me think in a more clearer way.

I don't think a pitch of a voice matters when it comes to writing voice. In writing a person can have a stronger voice  because how the words are portrayed in the passage. My spoken voice is more of a soft spoken tone but in writing my tone is more stronger because i want to make sure my reader's understand what I am trying to get across.

3. Analyze each section of data in terms of: Content (what it says) Form ( how the way language is used presents a feeling/information/other keys to what is going on)
Depending on a certain audience depends on the tone of voice. The audience language is adjusted to the certain type of audience they are speaking or writing to.

4. After you have made a list of what is going on in the chosen section(like we did in class) do the following· State what the data shows · Identify quotes from the data that illustrate the points you want to make
Peter elbow believes that voice is socially constructed meaning that nothing we do is original. For example writing when you get ideas from other sources that is not having your own voice. For example the lastest fashion are not original because it was already done years ago such as afro's and bell bottom jeans. People are wearing their batural hair more because it is beautiful but back in the day that was ugly and straight hair was in.

5. Look back at your data for other sections/stories that show or illustrate similar or related informtaion=> analyze them in terms of what you found in the third step (above). Add any new names/points to your list of what that section "shows".

Another point that i am trying to make is why is there such a controversary about voice. There will never be a right or wrong answer for that.

My interview questions on voice

Hello, My name is Oriana McGriff and I will be interviewing you today on the concept of voice. There are many perceptions of voice depending on how you look at the situation. During this interview I will be focusing on the finding your writer's voice and how voice in writing can come out through text, speech, and spoken. What I want to know is whether you think voice is original or not and why. Research shows that voice is socially constructed in which this means that voice is not original and we copy and imitate what society does.

Please state your first and last name and answer the following questions:

1. How old are you?

I am 22 years old

2. What type of work do you do?

I work at ShopRite and I am studying to be a Special Ed teacher grades P-3

3. What is your enthic background?

I am American, but my nationality is Portuguese, my dad was raised in Portugal and so were my grandparents, my mom was born here in the United States.

4. In the book 50 shades of gray what type of voice is the author portraying?

The author is portraying a modern day love affair and certain sexual scenes that are portrayed in this book. The author portrays a disappointing message to all women about the value of love in any relationship they may be.

5. Is the author's voice ethical?

The voice of the author is emotional and passionate. The author’s challenge is to harness prospect-emotion and create enough of a positive atmosphere and perceived value to purchase from readers. Readers need to understand the emotional contact in this book and how important it is.

6.When you write do you consciently pick your voice?

When I am writing my voice to me is important. Stating what comes to my mind is the most important though, because when speaking to myself I understand my writing in a clearer way and it is obtained easier. Using your voice to speak to the public is important especially if you have a message to tell to readers.

7. What does voice mean to you? ( this can be anything)

Voice means explaining yourself either about a certain topic you may need to write or read about, or explaining yourself to a family member or friend. Using your voice is important.

8. Do you have your own voice or is it influenced by society?

I do not let society voice me, I have my own voice and I use it when I want. Using your voice at certain times is more important then just using it all the time. Voice is controlled by what you say and you need to make sure what your addressing is important. The sound that is produced when a person speaks is all different. Everyone sounds differently when they speak. Some people get teachers to voice their opinions about certain subjects they may be interested in.

9. What you to make your voice heard in your writing?

Addressing voice on what subject I may be writing about is what is important. Voicing on what is heard in my writing is important whether it is about fiction or non-fiction. When it comes to writing people need to voice their actions about what they are writing and how they feel about it.

10. What does voice in text and spoken mean to you?

Voice in text means words that I can feel in my heart when someone texts me. For instance, say someone texts a person about how they feel. Normally I could feel their pain whether they are happy or not I can tell if they are lying about their feelings or not. It is easier to tell someones voice though, when being spoken to because everyone’s voice changes when they are either happy or sad, because when a person is happy their tone is like higher then when a person is sad their tone is low and not mellow.

11. What do you do to make your voice heard when giving a speech?

I use my voice clearly, by making my words clear and heard well. Speeches are not easy especially when you are going for a job interview, you must know how well to keep your voice toned and what words to say when at a job interview. Being able to use your voice correctly is what is important, especially when going for something so important. Many people are turned down jobs because they do not voice themselves the way the interviewer may want it to be done.

12. Do you enjoy free-writing or structed writing?

Free- writing is my favorite because it is just taking things from the mind and writing them down when as structured writing needs to be thought upon. I do a lot of free-writing when I am bored so my inner thoughts can be written down and my body feels better when I do this. Free-writing is just a relaxed process where many people do this and it feels good.

13. When your free-writing how is voice influenced?

Free-writing voice is influenced by your words being spoken in the mind. Your voice may be low at this time but voice always plays a major factor in any kind of writing that is being taken place. Without voice, it would be hard to get your feelings out and what you need to get done would be harder. Free-writing is important to do before writing a rough draft because whatever your topic may be you should always let your voice speak out the words that need to be said.

14. How would you interpet voice when your feeling a certain type of emotion?

Voice needs to be interpreted the correct way. Whether you are feeling happy you need to think about things that will help you stay that way and help motivate you so that your emotion does not change to sad. Being happy is one of the best emotions a person can have because it helps you stay motivated in what you need to get done. Feeling sad can lead to depression which is not good, because your body may make you not want to eat and do anything involving being around people.

15. Does a certain type of audience effect your voice?

Certain type of audience whether there is a lot of people in the room is harder to speak to especially if you do not know them. Speaking to your friends for example is easier audience to have then speaking to people you just met. Audience is the main factor that effects a person’s way of communicating. Communicating with audience is important and people need to learn ways on how to get themselves to open up to new audience because when you go for job interviewers you will be put on the spot so you need to learn how to deal with audience correctly.

16. When would you have a stronger voice? ( name examples)

A stronger voice is usually used toward a larger amount of people in a certain room. When someone is singing at a football game during halftime that is when a stronger voice needs to be made. If you have a small audience you do not need a strong voice because the interaction would only be between a few people. Concerts is when a stronger voice needs to be done at. When singing that is when your voice pitch is higher and stronger so that people can hear what you have to say.
